What self-help options are there?

There are options if you feel you are not yet ready to meet with a professional and discuss what is happening in your mental health.

Some of the places you can use for self-help include:

  1. The Blackdog “myCompass” application

myCompass is a free online tool that guides you through scientifically-proven activities that help improve mild-to-moderate symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression in 7weeks1. It’s also customised to your needs, so you can stay on course to build better mental health.

  1. The “Abby Health” journalling application

Led by Chief Medical Officer, A/Prof Peter O’Brien, AbbyHealth is a pioneering journalling application that produces patient-reported outcomes by listening to your whole story. You journal in AbbyHealth, and the intelligent AI system behind the application pulls out cohesive themes, feeding them back to you for greater understanding and potential future directions.

  1. The mood tracking application “Moodfit”

A mood tracking app that also has educational features and activities showing you the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through your responses, the application personalises the information you may need and the practices you may need to engage in. Over time, it helps you to build and restore good daily habits that reduce stress and build resilience.

Of course, this list is not exhaustive and there are many other good self-help tools out there that may support your mental health journey. Your HealthBright psychologist or psychiatrist may have further recommendations more specific to your journey.
